Most often, I do not photograph from intention, but rather intuition or instinct…even randomness. I wander, lift my camera, and click to capture an image of something that has attracted my attention.
As expressed by Rene Magritte, “Everything that is visible hides something that is invisible”. The experience of that observation is my quest.
This portfolio is a collection of images made over more than 15 years. During that time, these seemingly singular images began to talk to each other. A theme emerged. A collection was formed.
Each image makes me hold my breath or feel a catch in my throat or cause a wrinkle in my brow. Occasionally a very slight smile follows. They are about uncovering the hidden---the reference, the symbol, the metaphor. They are personal.
